Strategies for Resolving Conflict Essay

Conflict can be inevitable; even though some conflict can be good usually other times it might be harmful to a team. By simply definition conflict is any kind of situation in which incompatible goals, cognitions, or perhaps emotions inside or between individuals or perhaps groups that lead to opposition or antagonistic connections. Conflict can be damaging but with the right skills and the capacity to resolve this, it can be beneficial to the team (Bowes, 2008). A large number of people attempt to avoid conflict at any cost, but steering clear of conflict is not going to make it go away. A lot of people see shades of gray or different points of views of issues more easily and readily than others. Those who see issues as black or white colored and whom do not observe gray shades, often find it hard to understand a different sort of point of view or possibly a different perspective on a topic(Porter, 2003). Many people will detect conflict but choose not to do anything about that, they may think that if they will ignore that that it will vanish entirely. Most of the time yet , the situation gets worse (Mcnamara, 2003). Any sort of conflict can be quite a challenge yet understanding the characteristics and causes from the conflict then applying effective strategies to managing the conflict can benefit everyone(Bowes, 2008). The 4 main causes of turmoil in a workplace are: Diverse interests and goals- an objective for one person may be quality while one more personal goal may be speed. Both are valid goals but they conflict and may cause problems between members of the team. Inconsistant personal values- Our personal values support us determine what a person may truly feel is important just like our religious and political beliefs. This causes people to contact form cliques which could cause job relationships to be disjointed. Sociable styles- condition how people view points. Some people might be open minded and open to change while others are definitely more narrow minded and against change. In either case conflict will certainly arise.
